Teen Exec Completes Inaugural Workshop Series, Expands to Serve Middle Schoolers
Weston, Mass. – Feb. 11, 2025 – Teen Exec, a nonprofit dedicated to helping young people develop executive functioning skills, has successfully completed its first series of workshops, equipping preteens with essential tools for time management, project planning, organization, and goal setting. Over the course of four interactive sessions held at Weston Public Library, 13 preteens from Weston participated in hands-on activities designed to help them take control of their academic and personal responsibilities.
“Our first series of workshops showed just how much young students can benefit from learning these skills early,” said Natalya Lucas, the Weston High School freshman who founded and facilitates Teen Exec. “It was exciting to see participants gain confidence in their ability to manage tasks, set goals, and stay organized. The feedback from both students and parents has been very encouraging.”
Each of the four workshops in the series focused on a different executive functioning skill:
- Time management: Structuring daily routines, use planners effectively, and prioritize tasks.
- Project planning: Breaking down assignments into manageable steps and strengthening working memory.
- Organization: Exploring strategies like color-coding, checklists, and physical organization techniques.
- Goal setting: Using SMART goals and vision boards to define and track personal objectives.
The program incorporates interactive exercises and at-home practice assignments, ensuring that skills learned in each session could be reinforced outside the classroom. Each participant who completed the series received a certificate of completion and a Teen Exec-branded t-shirt to celebrate their progress.
Expanding to Serve Middle Schoolers
Following the success of its inaugural program, Teen Exec is expanding to empower more young learners. While the first series focused on preteens ages 9–12, upcoming workshops will now welcome middle school students, broadening access to essential executive functioning skills. Additionally, Teen Exec will extend its reach beyond Weston, inviting students from neighboring towns like Lincoln, Wayland, and Wellesley, ensuring that more young minds can benefit from this program.
“Our goal is to make opportunities to develop executive functioning skills accessible to as many young people as possible,” said Lucas. “By expanding to middle schoolers, we’re equipping more students with the tools they need to manage their responsibilities, stay organized, and build habits for lifelong success.”
