Weston, Mass. – Oct. 16, 2024 – Today marks the launch of Teen Exec, an educational program dedicated to helping young people develop executive functioning skills like time management, organization, goal setting, and project planning. Through a series of free and engaging workshops, Teen Exec will introduce students aged 9–12 to several tools and strategies they can rely on to feel confident in both their schoolwork and personal lives. 

“My goal with Teen Exec is to give younger kids the skills they need to handle their responsibilities, set and reach goals, and make good choices,” said Natalya Lucas, the ninth grader at Weston High School who founded Teen Exec and who will facilitate the workshops. “I believe that if we focus on these important skills early on, we can help kids build a strong foundation for whatever they want to do in the future.” 

Feedback from an online survey of Weston parents conducted in August and September 2024 revealed strong interest in the Teen Exec concept and helped to shape the structure and content of the program. 

Key Features of Teen Exec

• Interactive workshops over four weeks: During the weekly workshops, students explore executive functioning skills, engage in group exercises, and complete helpful worksheets together. 
• Practical homework: Between workshops, students practice the skills through short, homework assignments. 
• Parental involvement: Parents are kept in the loop through email messages between workshops that provide guidance on how to reinforce the skills at home. 
• Recognition at completion: Students who complete the workshops receive a printed certificate and Teen Exec-branded t-shirt. 
• Accessibility: To ensure everyone has a chance to learn the skills, the program is offered free of charge.
• Peer guidance: The program is built on Weston students supporting their peers, making the instruction more relatable and fostering a sense of community.  

Upcoming Workshops

Teen Exec will begin its first series of workshops in January 2025, with sessions taking place at the Weston Public Library. These workshops are available to students aged 9–12, and registration is now open on our website at teenexec.com.
